Ten By Ten Choreography Forum - 10 international choreographers create ensemble choreography for 10 dance artists of YRA
May 2-8, 2027 - 7 day intensive in studio and in theatre (450 seats specially designed for dance - Terminal Theatre, formerly Fleck Dance Theatre)
Hands on experience:
1/ create choreography for an ensemble of ten professional dancers
2/ create a lighting design for ensemble choreography in theatre
3/ stage ensemble choreography for a live theatre audience
I want to ensure that my legacy of creating non-commercial, impactful ensemble choreography, directing live music, and producing large-scale theatre productions lives on. In order to help further this idea, I am offering what I have learned over 35 years, creating countless choreographies for Arabesque Dance Company & Orchestra / Yasmina Ramzy Arts theatre productions.
This course is designed for directors of Raqs Sharqi companies / troupes who want to break past the Belly Dance bubble with inspiration and meaningful:
Art that is appreciated by discerning mainstream dance audiences and critics
Art that warrants being funded by arts councils, foundations, and corporations
Art that inspires with innovation, timelessness & uniqueness
Art that does not centre around a lead dancer
Art that truly honors Arab culture, for which they can be proud
Do you know how to construct a cue sheet?
Do you know how to tap your imagination for original staging?
Do you know how to articulate your artistic vision?
